Removing dead wood from healthy trees is often specified to improve crown appearance and the overall tree aesthetics.

It is important to remember, however, that dead wood forms essential habitat and ecosystem.

It should not always be considered essential to removal of dead wood in order to maintain healthy tree growth

Major dead wood can cause risk of falling branches. If the tree is in an area frequented by the public or children then removal may be advised.
